Sexual Rehabilitation Is an Essential Part of Returning to Life
War leaves traces not only on the body, but also on a person’s inner world. Even after physical recovery, many veterans face invisible challenges – the loss of a sense of self, intimacy, and sexuality. This affects self-esteem, relationships, and the desire to build a family.

Sexual recovery after trauma is not a luxury, but a necessary part of comprehensive rehabilitation. Accepting one’s changed body, receiving support from a partner, and feeling safe in the intimate sphere are all critically important for a meaningful return to everyday life.

The Olena Pinchuk Foundation is one of the key stakeholders in Ukraine that has been developing a culture of sexuality and sexual education for diverse audiences for more than 20 years. In response to the new realities of war, and within the national network of rehabilitation centers RECOVERY, founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces, the Foundation focuses on supporting service members, veterans, and their partners in restoring intimate life after trauma.

As part of its mission, the Foundation works to raise public awareness, train specialists, develop comprehensive medical care, and create an environment in which sexuality after trauma is no longer a taboo subject.
